Walburg and Pace Bend

Two great races here in texas, although not great results for me. Both races were stacked with awesome riders. Kristian House made an apperance, and the Trek/VW team were stuper strong both days. A mental mistake relagated me off the back after 2 of 3 laps at Walburg. With 20-30mph winds, gusting to 40, the crosswinds were destroying the fields. On the down wind section I found my self chaseing as the groups started to split. I barely made it to the pack, but was too tired to be able to move up to the front were i needed to be, we then hit the cross wind section. As soon as the riders in front of me started to crack I was forced to jump to close gaps. After about 15mins of that I was gassed.

Pace Bend was a bit better, was able to be more aggressive and be a part of the action. No result here, but my fitness is still moving up. My goal for the spring is to be up to full speed by Fort Davis Stage Race in April.

Tour of New Braufels 2/3-4

I went in to the Tour of New Braunfels, wanting to use this a tune-up race and to see where my form was. Although, I had no spectacular results, I was very pleased to place near the front in the RR (last year I was popped off of the back).

The Time Trail went ok, my power under 5-10mins is still low, as I have yet to do any intervals this season yet. I averaged only around 310 Watts for about 9mins.

The final stage was a criterium, and I was feeling great. I was near the front all of the race and was feeling like I could place in this stage as well. With 4 laps to go I got a flat and was not able to finish.

After looking at my power data for the race I can see that I have a long way to go to get my sprint and intermediate power up to at least where they were last year. On the positive side, some of the longer durations, I am making near or at my best from last year, all on base miles and ~5lbs lighter at that.
