State Road Race/ Category 1.

This past weekend was the State Road Race championships. This was a very tough, and very hot RR. Our team rode as well together as I've ever seen. We really controlled the race and the tactics well. This meant that many of our riders were going to ride hard early and probably not finish. This is the kind of selflessness it takes to win a big road race with big strong teams. In the end, Adam finished 6th, we were happy with this finish considering the competition.

The next day was a non-championship RR. As a team we did really well. At about 1/2hr into the race a serious group was moving away, I was able to make it across to the break. This break contained 7 people, 3 of which where from Velossimo. Our group stayed away for the remainder of the 3.5hr race. We finished with 4th, 5th and i was 7th overall.

The big news, however, is that I received my Category 1 upgrade today. Its a bit of a shock as this is a fairly elite group, i'm not sure i believe that i deserve to be called a cat 1.

Thinking about my upgrade last night, i came to the realization that I've reached my long term goal that i set out for myself in 2004, when i started racing. Also, since i've started racing, i've been chasing points, always looking for that next upgrade. Since Cat. 1 is as high as you can go, there aren't any more points to chase. I guess my goals will have to change. I'd like to win some higher caliber Stage Races, race well at some NRC (national level races) , and I'd like to be able to help some of my team mates get their upgrades too.
